design your own art project

I first collected the pictures that I was going to use for my project, I took one of them and got the other one online. I cut out the image of me skiing so it could have a white background. Then I darkened the exposure on Photoshop on the original image of me and then made a copy. I then layered the image of mountains and cut it out around the outline. I then turned the copy of my face black and white and gave it some opacity so that the mountains could be seen through my face.
I really liked the double exposure picture that is hanging in Roxy’s room and I decided that I wanted to do one that included things l like. I enjoyed being able to have freedom with the project and what we wanted to do. I felt like I could really express my creativity and not be confined by guidelines. I think that the freedom pushed me to be more interested in what I was doing because the project did not feel like a chore. Throughout this project, I learned more about Photoshop and got more comfortable with using it. I think that I might do another double exposure picture that is more refined in the future.

distance, proportion, landscape

Scale is the size of an object in an image. Proportion is the relationship in scale between two objects in an image. Objects in the foreground of an image are the largest in scale and the most detailed. Things that appear in the middle ground are less clear and duller in color. The background of a picture is the least detailed and not the main focus of the picture. For creating this project, the magic wand and quick selection tools were very helpful to select a part of an image.

tutorials

I chose to follow a tutorial that gave instructions on how to change the color of someone's hair. I chose a color with a large feathered brush and turned down the opacity. I also did a very simple piece where I just imported different brushes and created shadows on someone's face.

art history

  1. Do you feel you met or approached the project rationale?

    • I think that I did meet it because I put a lot of effort into my drawing and I completed all of the things that were required.

  2. What is considered art?

    • I think that anything someone creates and is proud of is considered art.

  3. How does context affect works of art?

    • Context is the story behind the art and where it comes from so when you have the story, it can affect how the art makes us feel.

  4. Why would context matter when interpreting art?

    • It explains where the art comes from and the story behind it.

letter portrait

In the Letter Portrait project, I went around the school to find things that looked like the letters of my name. We then put them together in Photoshop. I did some light editing to make the colors pop and put a grain filter on it.
