space settlement

reflection

Prior to this project, I had very little experience with using Adobe Premiere, but through the extent of this project, I not only learned the basics of the program, but I also began to understand how to do some more advanced features. Through learning Premiere, I found that I really enjoyed film making and using editing programs. I got a better understanding of compiling clips together in order and adding different music to make the film look more cinematic. I also learned how to make an interview look more professional and advanced using box lights, creative camera angles, and microphones to enhance the sound.

The most important physics concepts that we applied in our videos were circular motion and center of gravity. One of the prompts on our rubrics was, “How will you create artificial gravity on your space settlement?” Most of us used centripetal force in order to create gravity. For example, if you have a bike wheel with an ant on the inside of the wheel. If the wheel is spinning parallel to the ground, the ant will be pulled to the outside of the wheel and, to the ant, it will feel very similar to the pull of gravity.

My greatest strength in this project was by far perseverance. I worked incredibly hard on this project at school and at home in order to create a quality product and get it done on time. The day before the exhibition, I spilled water on my computer deeming it un-useable for the last days of the project. This was also the only place that my video draft was stored. Fortunately, we were able to transfer the project to one of my classmate's computers so that I could scramble to finish it in the last minute. I ultimately was able to have a product that I was incredibly proud to display at the exhibition.

Although I showed my skills for perseverance in this project, I did struggle to actively collaborate with all my group members. I got upset at them when they weren't doing what they were supposed to and did not clearly communicate with them. When one of my group member’s tasks weren't complete, I just did the work for them instead of confronting them about it. Although I have improved upon this since my last group project, I still have a lot of work to do on my collaboration skills.
